The bible continuously talks about love, but also mentions what can destroy the love, which is “sins”. Sins have a power to destroy everything and make everything in vain.

Even God-given talents and spiritual gifts can be simply wasted. Sins deceive us to think of ourselves worthless, which eventually makes us live far away from God or go against God. We sometimes think that God is brutal especially in Old Testament. God had wiped out an entire nation including children and livestock. Countless stories in the bible, especially the Garden of Eden, clearly describes how men can hit the bottom due to our sins. Sins take away an eternal life.

This is why Adam and Even were let go of the Garden of Eden. Sins have brought confusion to our language and love. There were so many sins that God had to perish all the humans with flood. The Israelites who worshiped God as soon as they crossed the Red Sea were the same people who betrayed God, which shows how powerful and destructive sins can be. Consequences of sins cannot be taken back without the blood of Jesus, which is God’s ultimate sacrifice.

We are exposed to sins every day and tend to fall into the same sins over and over again. This almost seems pathetic and hopeless, as we cannot overcome sins on our own. Sins have power to distort and swallow everything: We tend to love money, not what we can do with money. We think of our family as a burden. Married couples find it the most uncomfortable for each partner to talk to each other. Sex becomes a form of self-indulgence, not an intimate way to form an intimate relationship in marriage. More and more people want to be self-centred and worship themselves.

We are basically lied to by Satan. Again, what is important to keep in mind is that none of the sins can be dealt with without the blood of Jesus. God let us face the consequences of our sins, which is also love. This is the heart of loving parents. God disciplines us so that we do not repeat the same sins. I pray that each one of us run away from sins and get closer to God today in Jesus’ graceful name. Amen.

“Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” (1 John 3:4-6)
